Clarence Runners on Radio Bury

Nick Radio Bury

Clarence Runners hit the airwaves recently as Nick, Andrea and Guy joined David Dockerty on Radio Bury’s Breakfast Show to talk all things Clarence Runners.

The trio chatted about the group, the people behind it and what makes Clarence Runners such a friendly and welcoming part of Bury’s running community.

From its beginnings as a small local running group, Clarence Runners has always been about making running accessible to everyone. Whether you’re an experienced runner, just getting started, returning after a break or happier mixing running and walking, there’s a place for you.

Today, the group continues to be entirely volunteer-led, with qualified run leaders organising free weekly runs from Clarence Park and helping make sure nobody gets left behind. More than anything, though, it’s the social side and the sense of community that keeps people coming back.

That sense of community extends well beyond our Thursday runs. Clarence Runners has strong links with the local parkrun community, where many of our members regularly take part, volunteer and help organise events. The relationships between participants, volunteers and organisers are a huge part of what makes parkrun special, with familiar faces, encouragement and friendships turning a Saturday morning 5K into something much more than just a run. It's a spirit that fits perfectly with what Clarence Runners is all about.

The group is also heavily involved in the Bury 10K, which in 2026, takes place on 20th September. Clarence Runners members support the event in a number of ways, including providing pacers and marshals to help runners around the course and make sure the event runs smoothly. It’s another great example of the group getting involved in the wider local running community and supporting one of Bury’s biggest annual running events.

Nick, Andrea and Guy were able to give Radio Bury listeners a flavour of that community and share what Clarence Runners is all about with people across the borough.

A big thank you to David Dockerty and Radio Bury for inviting us onto the show - and well done to Nick, Andrea and Guy for representing the Clarence Runners crew!
