Clarence Runners awarded Sport England funding to support future growth
We’ve got some fantastic news!
Clarence Runners has been awarded National Lottery funding from Sport England, helping us continue to grow and support even more runners in our local community.
The funding will allow us to invest in both our volunteers and the equipment needed to run safe, welcoming sessions. Thanks to the grant, we’ll be able to fund:
- Five England Athletics Leadership in Running Fitness (LiRF) courses
- Five first aid kits
- Five Run Leader tops
- A Clarence Runners flag for the start of our sessions
- A branded event banner
- A Clarence Runners gazebo for races and community events
We’re also delighted to have secured additional funding through the LETS Get Bury Moving Coach and Officials Education Bursary Fund, thanks to Bury VCFA helping to fund two more Leadership in Running Fitness qualifications.
Investing in our volunteers
As Clarence Runners has grown over the past four years, so has the need for qualified Run Leaders. We now regularly welcome more than 50 runners each week across a range of groups and abilities, from beginners taking their first steps into running through to experienced runners looking for longer or faster sessions.
Having more qualified Run Leaders means we can continue to provide safe, well-organised and enjoyable sessions for everyone. The Leadership in Running Fitness qualification covers everything from planning routes and leading groups to warm-ups, cool-downs, runner safety and emergency procedures.
This investment will help ensure Clarence Runners can continue to offer the friendly, supportive and inclusive atmosphere that has helped the club grow from just a handful of runners into one of Bury’s largest free community running groups.
Come and join us!
Clarence Runners is a free, friendly community running group based at Clarence Park Lido in Bury.
We meet every:
- Tuesday at 6:30am
- Thursday at 6:00pm
Whether you’re taking your very first steps into running or training for your next race, there’s a group for you.
We’re also launching our popular 5K to 10K training course in July, helping runners prepare for the Bury 10K in September.
A huge thank you to Sport England and to everyone who plays the National Lottery for making this possible. Your support will help Clarence Runners continue to grow and inspire more people to get active.
Sport England invests National Lottery and Exchequer funding in projects that will grow and sustain participation in grassroots sport and create opportunities for people to excel at their chosen sport.
If you’d like to join us, simply come along to one of our sessions or explore the rest of our website to find out more.
